Each of our clients has a pair of Windows 98 computers with 2 NICs each.
1 NIC is designated for Peer-to-Peer network: which means that these 2 computers are directly connected.
The other NIC on each computer is used for connection to the LAN.
The problem is that some of our clients say that when they boot up their computers, they do not get the logon screen, and the computer does not go into Windows. All they see is a desktop without any icons.
When they press alt-ctrl-del, there is no program running.
There is a quick solution to the problem: disconnect the computer from one of the 2 networks. Let it go into Windows and only then reconnect the cable.
Of course, they are not very happy about this.
One network specialist told me to play with routing table to specify which NIC to use when the computer is booting up.
I am not sure if this will help.
Does anybody know how to fix this problem?
Thank you very much,
Mikhail Gordon
