We have two sites on different subnets that can not communicate. We can ping each other but tracert fails leaving from subnet 4 after it passes the router. Tracert from subnet 5 gets from its router to a second router and then times out as well. We can browse the web from subnet 4 to a proxy on subnet 5 but cannot have the bdc on 4 join domain on 5or send mail through exchange. Some pacets are getting through and some aren't. Any help would result in god like worship from me and my co-workers.

Check your configuration on the router ports for subnet 4. Ensure that you are not limiting access or sending to a foreign address. if there is a 3 router between 4 and 5 then check that as well. Logon to each router and see if it can ping or tracert from its position. Determine if all routers are using the appropriate protocol. If using RIP, change it to OSPF or another type to determine if your routers are not talking properly. Also, try to use network monitor and RPCping utilities. This can also help determine if your routers are communicating. You probably have these on your Microsoft CDs.
Good Luck! I hope this provides something for you and your team...even a good laugh!

ICMP, HTTP, SMTP and Tracert all use different ports...this looks like a port forwarding issue on one of the intervening routers, especially if there is a firewall in the path
GOod luck
